Netscape wins one month from executioner
AOL has extended support for its Netscape browser by a month, to March 1.
AOL first announced in December it was ending support for the once popular browser on February 1, saying the investment necessary to get the software to the standard fans expected did not fit within AOL’s new focus as a Web-based business.

Mobile Firefox seeks UI feedback
The Mozilla Foundation has released prototype user interfaces (UIs) for its upcoming mobile version of Firefox, and is seeking comments. While not final, these UIs could easily be incorporated in the final product, according to a blog post by Mozilla developer and project lead Doug Turner.
The Foundation has previously said that the mobile version of Firefox — which will run on Windows Mobile and Linux — will use the same core Gecko 1.9 rendering engine as its desktop sibling, and be compatible with many Firefox extensions.

Netscape: The Browser That Started it All Dies a Quiet Death
When Netscape arrived back in 1994, the screeching wail of the dial-up modem was not yet a household sound. But the browser changed that and ignited the growth of the internet by making it easy for anyone to use. [...] Then came Microsoft’s party-crashing Internet Explorer browser, which, rather infamously, was bundled with Windows. That bundling marked the beginning of the end for Netscape. In an effort to compete with Explorer, Netscape began to add new features at a rapid pace and quickly became, in the eyes of many, a bloated, overwrought piece of software. [...] Netscape released its browser’s source code and created the Mozilla project in 1998. AOL then acquired Netscape in 1999.

Apple’s Safari Web browser share hit new all-time high of 5.82% in January 2008
Net Applications’ Web Browser stats for January 2008 show Apple’s Safari hit a new all-time high with 5.82% share of the browsers visiting Net Applications’ network of websites worldwide. The data is aggregated from 40,000 websites that are predominantly ecommerce or corporate sites.
